About Kyia

 Hello all,

My name is Kyia (pronounced Kia, like the car) Watkins and I am the owner and artist of  At Peace Arts.  Although I am a city girl at  heart, born and still living in Boston,  Massachusetts, I love the stillness and traquility of the suburbs and country where I attended  school and lived for a while.

My art is a combination of both of these  worlds.  The bright colors and lively characters (named the Peace Peeps) represent the hustle, bustle and flavor of the city, while the simple nature of each PEACE reminds us to slow down and take in what's around us.  Life can get a little wacky from  time to time.  It is full of humps and bumps and roadblocks that I know I could really do without.  But, life is also filled with so many special  everyday moments (I call them everyday PEACES) that we ignore all too frequently.

Now, the Peace Peeps, with their red sneakers and simple stick figure bodies, know how to be At Peace .  They love life and all that comes with it.  Their environments are not perfect.  In fact, many times there are dishes in the sink and laundry in a basket waiting to be washed.  But, they put that all aside to spend time alone or with the people they love and do what they love to do.

To put it simply, I create art Peaces that reflect how life could be if we all celebrated the peaces in our lives more often.

When  I am not holding a paintbrush or colored pencils, I enjoy laughing until it hurts (I have been told my laugh is infectious, so watch out!), dancing, singing, spending time with my family and being outdoors.  I am a certified quote-a-holic and love to be inspired as well as inspire others.

My peaces can be found in permanent exhibits at The Hebrew Rebailitation Center’s Institute for Aging Research and The Trinity Boston Counseling Center, along with numerous private collections in Massachusetts and beyond. My work has also been featured in temporary exhibits at the Hyde Park Public Library, Brigham & Women’s Hospital and The Daniels Art Gallery at The Hebrew Rehabilitation Center.  I continue to display my work at various Farmer’s Markets and Open Studios in the Massachusetts and surrounding areas and am constantly working on new ways to spread peace  and healing through my art.

Live, Laugh.  Be At Peace.
